On March 8, 1886, Gottlieb Daimler ordered a carriage in the "Americaine" design from the Wilhelm Wimpff & Sohn carriage factory in Stuttgart, supposedly for his wife Emma's upcoming birthday, but in reality to equip it with an engine as another test vehicle. An air-cooled, vertical single-cylinder engine was installed, which was modeled on the "grandfather clock". Compared to the engine in the riding carriage, Daimler and Maybach had almost doubled the displacement, and the power was accordingly increased to 1.1 hp. The motor carriage was converted from air to water cooling in 1887. For this purpose, a large-surface finned radiator was mounted below the rear seat.
Daimler's motor car was the first four-wheeled vehicle to be powered by a high-speed internal combustion engine. In contrast to the Benz Patent Motor Car, which was an independent, holistic design, Daimler's first automobile was simply a carriage without a drawbar and with the usual turntable steering - a carriage without horses.
Daimler initially did not think about further developing or even mass producing his motor car. With the motor carriage, he had once again demonstrated the possible uses of his engine and continued to pursue the goal of producing engines for all conceivable industrial applications.
The miniature model of the Daimler motor carriage is painted in the original colors, designed from die-cast metal and implemented with the utmost attention to detail according to the original CAD data. This is reflected in all high-quality decorations in a true-to-original representation. This small work of art will definitely enrich the collection of every miniature model lover and is delivered in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging.
