The year 1959 marked a turning point in the history of Mercedes-Benz , as a fundamentally revised passenger car range was presented at this time. Under the motto "The new six-cylinder - in a class of their own", three completely newly designed models appeared as successors to the previous cylinder types: the types 220 b, 220 Sb and 220 SEb. All models had a very spacious and elegant body in common, which was particularly distinguished by the characteristic tail fins - a design element that was to shape the name for an entire model generation. The new model series also set standards in terms of safety, as, for example, a passenger cell with crumple zones at the front and rear was implemented for the first time. The models also received a padded dashboard and a steering wheel with a padded plate, as well as wedge-pin door locks used for the first time in this form. Between 1959 and 1968, a total of 344,751 sedans and chassis of the 111 and 112 series were produced at the Sindelfingen plant, which is also the basis for the hand-assembled precision model in die-cast zinc with plastic parts. Authenticity is a top priority in the miniature model: the model is not only painted in an authentic color, but also provides a true-to-original representation of all interior details in the high-quality decorated and flocked interior. Six parts of the model can be opened (doors, bonnet and tailgate). The 1:18 model is delivered in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging, which includes a screwdriver and a glove. This means that the model can be removed from the packaging without leaving fingerprints on the glass or body.
